The laughter of little babies is infectious, enchanting and may play an important role in their early development. Yet it was largely overlooked by science. Caspar conducted a large global survey of new parents to discover what makes their babies laugh (http://babylaughter.net). In this talk Caspar will present the results of his research and show how it reveals a serious and important purpose to this delightful behaviour.

Dr. Caspar Addyman works at the Infantlab at Goldsmiths, University of London. He specialises in the study of learning in the first few years of life and has researched  such topics as how we learn our first words and how our sense of time develops. Before moving into academia he spent 8 years working on financial trading floors. He didn't enjoy banking so in 2001 started a part-time psychology BSc at Birkbeck. He stayed for his PhD and several post-docs before recently moving to Goldsmiths as a lecturer.
