Tuesday, 30th of May 2017

Anchor 1

Sit outside on a cloudless night and sooner or later you will see a shooting star. These fast bright flights flicker out so quickly that sometimes you aren't even sure you've seen them. In this talk I'll be telling you how shooting stars can be fossilised in rocks, and how we go about recognising them and finding them. We also learn how they provide us with a unique record of the history of our solar system and even perhaps the galaxy beyond.

Dr. Matt Genge is a Senior Lecturer in Earth and Planetary Science at Imperial College London. He is also a member of the cosmic dust subcommittee of NASA CAPTEM, advisor to the UK Government''s Near Earth Objects Information Centre, and a member of the NASA STARDUST mission preliminary examination team.
