The new science of epigenetics is finally answering the question of how, at a molecular level, the environment communicates with our genetic material.  But will our increasd scientific understanding create new ethical dilemmas if pharmacology begins to be seen as an alternative to social interventions in improving the human condition?

 

Nessa Carey has a virology PhD from the University of Edinburgh and is a former Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology at Imperial College, London. She has worked in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry for ten years. She lives in Bedfordshire and has recently published her first book: The Epigenetics Revolution.
