The bigger the better - How to make a big brain?

Tuesday, 28th of April 2015

Understanding what makes a brain human is a question that fascinated our species for a very long time. Biologists have explored the mechanisms that change brain size as well as looking for the developmental events able to increase brain complexity. I will summarise the recent effort in the field and highlight how very small changes in early development can lead to big modifications in brain size and complexity. I'll discuss whether size really matter and explore where complexity matters for development of cognition.

Dr Corinne Houart is Professor of Developmental Neurobiology at King's College London.
