10 Big Ideas of Science.

Scientific discoveries improve our lives in many ways, but one of the most exciting fruits of Science are the big ideas that help explain the world we live in. I will describe my 10 favourite big ideas of Science which I feel explain most powerfully the nature of the universe, life itself, and our own human social organisation.
Barry Thompson completed his Ph.D. in 2004 at the University of Cambridge. He joined the European Molecular BIology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, as a postdoctoral fellow before moving to London where he is now a Principal Investigator at the London Research Institute. His lab studies how cells co-operate to construct tissues and how epithelial tumours arise.
